We have been having lovely wet weather in the beautiful Lowveld lately. Only problem when your a lifestyle Photographer is your shoots often get re-scheduled due to the wet conditions. On this Lovely Sunday the storm clouds were once again threatening to interrupt our scheduled session. I was so happy when Riette and Gerrit were still keen to brave the weather, and the weather held up and we had a great shoot with little cutie Lukas.
“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
— Karl Lagerfeld
One of the saddest days in my career was when a client phoned me and described her absolute heartbreak to me. Her son had passed away at the age of only 19, and the last photos of him she had where he wasn’t in a school or sport uniform was when he was 5! My heart went out to this poor woman so much! Over the phone I could hear her intense regret! Her regret of never taking the time to take his picture… I don’t want to scare you, I just want you to realize, photos are so important!
I am such a nostalgic person (which suits my job perfectly of course) . I constantly find myself looking at pictures of my kids and feeling so sad when I see how they have grown and how they have changed. When do we stop looking at our kids this way, cherishing each milestone, drinking in each moment of their fantastic lives?
A recent shoot reminded me once again that moments are still important! Take pictures of your kids! Even if they complain or go through the moody teenager phase. And even more important, be in pictures with them. Don’t let your own self conscious insecurities stop you from being in the memories too. When you look back on all these shared moments it will mean the world to see that you were there for them. It is such an important part of life! Captured moments make memories we can cherish forever!
I’ve had the privilege of working with this fantastic family before. These guys! I’ve got to tell you, they make my day!
I am so used to capturing Families with little kids, by the way , why do we stop taking pictures of our kids when they grow up? Read more about my opinion regarding this here. That I jumped at the chance when Lizl called and asked to do a session with their 4 full grown teenage sons!
We did a shoot together last year on their farm in Nelspruit and I couldn’t believe how the farm has changed! The Macadamia trees are gorgeous, the view is spectacular and the view is breathtaking. We all had a blast!
…. these guys had such a blast! Showering each other in bright colours. But I suppose that’s to be expected when you have three brothers together! I just love the colours and how each persons face turned out!
Thanks guys! Thanks for being such good sports!! Just look at the one of a kind images we have as a result!
Wow!! WHAT A SESSION!!! For as long as I can remember I have wanted to do a Paint bomb Session! Finally a Client was keen to try it! I think the fact that we have worked together a couple of times before made it easier for everyone to jump on board!
For Danie’s 60th birthday, their whole family got together for the first time in a while, what better opportunity to get everyone in front of a camera!
At first all was good and CLEAN…
And then the FUN began…
See the amazing images in the next post…
